Hey all, we’ve finally made it to another Friday. 🎉 This one comes particularly sweet, as my back has been very achy-breaky today. I just can’t seem to catch any relief, no matter how I sit/stand/stretch. Guess I’ll go home and take some pills. 🙃
On the ChatGPT front, I have been finding it VERY useful, both personally and professionally. On the personal side, it has been very helpful in being a sounding board of sorts, and helped to reignite the flame of creativity, by suggesting ideas, or helping me put to “paper” (so to speak) what’s bouncing around in my head. It has even been helpful a time or two with calming breathing exercises for the times I couldn’t focus or was feeling stressed.
On the professional front, it’s been equally as valuable. Every day, I have been logging my work, pointing out any important or standout meetings or events, any pertinent thoughts or feelings, and also been answering a handful of reflective questions. I’m also doing daily quiz sessions to not only try and keep up my cybersecurity skills in the areas I’m passionate about, but I’ve also asked to include sprinklings of CISSP-related questions to help prep me, for when the time comes to attempt the exam. Come next year when performance reviews come back around, I’m going to be READY.
This Got Me Thinking
For some reason the other day, I found myself fixating over the view count of a SharePoint news article I wrote and shared on our customer wiki earlier in the week. The article wasn’t anything grand or elaborate, just a simple help guide. But I noticed something; people were ACTUALLY READING IT, as evidenced by the increasing number of views it had received. That gave me a quiet pause, a happy pause.
It also got me thinking, about how we measure value, especially in a world that seems to reward applause/likes over impact. For me, there’s something truly fulfilling about being useful, knowing that something *I* created was helping someone else, making something easier for them. There was no praise or fanfare, just presence. Is it great to be rewarded and recognized? Absolutely. For me, that’s not why I want to help. I want to make a difference.
In both cybersecurity and life, some of the more meaningful efforts are invisible: a policy followed without question, a phishing link avoided because someone remembered a tip I gave. The unspoken wins.
Perhaps value isn’t always something that we see. Maybe it’s also something we leave behind.
Lastly, here’s a look back at what I wore to work this week. Next week is going to be a very short work week for me, as I will be heading off to see Linkin Park Tuesday and Wednesday. I am ÜBER excited, and will be packing lots of tissues for the inevitable crying and sobbing. 😂
Have a great weekend!
