Hey everyone, it’s time for the weekend once again. I’m particularly looking forward to it for a couple of reasons—I’m still recovering from being sick with a lingering cough that doesn’t want to let go, and I’ll have some uninterrupted time to play more of Donkey Kong Bananza on my Switch 2. I’ve only played about an hour’s worth so far, and it’s quite enjoyable. Of course, I’d enjoy it more without all of the coughing, but I’ll take what I can get. 😂

I’ve noticed over the last couple of weeks or so that I feel like my creativity is starting to subside a bit—I’m finding it increasingly difficult to come up with things to write about, even when I try to force myself to slow down. I’m hoping that it’s only temporary, and/or attributing it to my being sick. It was quite nice to be able to take a walk, see something, and immediately find some inspiration from it. Or, to listen to a podcast or a presentation, and be inspired and energized by something that was said.
Now? Not so much.
Come back soon, inspiration! 🙏🏼
I realize that is in contrast to my weekly “this got me thinking” post/monologues, but I’m thankful that my past self had the foresight to stockpile a few ideas for just such an occasion. Thanks, past me! ☺️
This Got Me Thinking
These past few weeks (pre-sickness), I’m trying to pay more attention to the little things—not just at work, but in the world around me. I’ve been noticing flowers more often: the variety of shapes, the way certain colors pop against the green, how no two seem quite the same. It’s been a small change in how I navigate my day, but it’s given me pause to remind me how much detail surrounds us — and how easy it is to overlook it.
That got me thinking about how that same attentiveness sometimes shows up in my work.
Security isn’t always about the big flashing alerts or urgent threats. Sometimes, it’s as subtle as a device that hasn’t checked in lately, or a user account that no one’s touched in months. It’s a customer who hesitates before asking a question, unsure if it’s worth raising. These quiet details are quite easy to miss, and are often where real risks (and real opportunities) live.
I’m learning that security isn’t just in the tools we deploy, but in the attention we give. It’s in the questions we’re willing to ask—even in the patterns we notice, and the people we take time to listen to.
Sometimes, the smallest things are what keep everything safe.
Finally, here’s a look back at what I wore to work this week. Also, here’s to hoping that I can finally kick this coughing and get back to feeling like my normal self again—and full of inspiration once more. Have a great weekend!
