Weekly Style Recap: September 22-26, 2025

Happy Sunday! How is the weekend treating you all? It’s been good to me so far. I’ve been using the time to delve into the world of Cyberpunk 2077 on my Switch 2. I’m currently on my third play-through of the game, but my first time on Switch—obviously. 😂 While I do have the game on all three consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch 2), I only paid for the game on the switch. The other versions I picked up when they were available on their respective subscription services, so technically I’ve only bought the game once. 😉 I had forgotten how enjoyable it is. I’ve currently cleared out all side gigs and missions, and am just about to start through the Phantom Liberty expansion, of which I have only played through once. It’s been a while, so I don’t really remember any of the storyline and additional side missions. I can’t wait to dive into it again.

Work continues to be extremely busy, but enjoyable still. I’m still fully submerged into the world of Jamf (a tool for asset management and deployment for Apple devices), creating new workflows, working towards the goal of having Apple devices shipped directly to customers without the need to involve our IT group with delivery, set-up, and configuration. While still in testing, I’d say that I’m probably 90%+ there. It’s exciting!

Also, I’ve been involved in meetings between the various IT and security groups of the health system and academic divisions as they start to develop guidelines and policies for researchers with government contracts, that follows the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program. While they are initially working towards level 1 certification of it, this means that there will be lots of changes impacting researchers who are attempting to obtain government contracts, or need to renew their existing contracts. I imagine that there will be a number of unhappy folks, as things will soon become much more restrictive to better protect and secure research and highly sensitive data. I won’t get into the nitty gritty, but the changes will be quite substantial.

Moving on…

This Got Me Thinking

On a recent episode of the podcast The Awareness Angle, the hosts discussed an article they came across regarding Qantas Airways. When news broke that Qantas was cutting executive bonuses by 15% after a cyberattack, I found myself immediately intrigued upon hearing this. For once, the focus wasn’t on blaming the individual who clicked, or the employee who “should have known better.” Instead, it was on leadership—the people whose decisions, priorities, culture, and oversight set the overall tone for everything that happens within the company.

That particular event felt extraordinary to me. Too often, the narrative around security lapses typically centers around the “weakest link,” pointing fingers at end users while the systemic issues go untouched. But the truth is, responsibility starts at the top. Leaders decide how much to invest in defenses, how quickly to patch, especially how transparent to be when something goes wrong. Their choices ripple through the entire organization.

Was Qantas’s move mostly symbolic? Probably. A 15% bonus cut won’t adversely affect an executive’s lifestyle. But what it does sends a signal—that trust has a cost, and when it’s broken, leaders should be part of the accountability. If more companies adopted that mindset, maybe we’d stop seeing security as a game of blame at the bottom and start seeing it as a shared obligation, anchored by those with the greatest power to shape outcomes.

It got me thinking: how different would the landscape look if moral obligation, not just financial gain, sat at the heart of corporate decision-making?

And finally, here’s a look back at what I wore to work this past week. I still feel like I’m losing my ability to take my signature action shots, as I’m having to attempt them several times before I get some that are worth keeping. I just can’t seem to get the timing down anymore. Not only that, with my injured foot and ankle—not to mention my increasing age—I don’t get around as well as I used to. 🙈 There are only three day’s worth of outfits this week, as I took Monday off to stay home to receive—and set up and play around with—my iPhone Air. I honestly can’t believe how thin this thing is!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and have a great week ahead!

-Terry
