SECURE, IN STYLE

Weekly Style Recap: May 12-16, 2025

Hey all, happy Fri-yay! 🥳 Ready for the weekend?

I am!

I’ve got a conference to prep for (only attending—NOT presenting 😅), and still have to put together outfits and get things packed. If any of you happen to be attending the EDUCAUSE Cybersecurity and Privacy Professionals conference, I’d love to connect. Assuming you can find me, of course. As much as I love attending conferences and learning new things, I’m trash at networking and that whole socializing thing. If I’m not a fly on the wall, watching everyone, I’m usually invisible amidst a crowd of people, conversing all around me. It’s my crux, but I’m learning to be a better socializer. Attending conferences and such are very helpful. Who knows, perhaps one day you might find me presenting a topic!

Ummmmmm, yeah, I don’t think so. 😂

This Got Me Thinking

While browsing my many facets of fashion and style on social media this week — I’ve got to have my little fashion inspiration breaks — I came across something that gave me pause. Recent headlines reported cyberattacks on major retailers like Dior and Marks & Spencer, where systems were disrupted and customer data was potentially exposed. Additionally, hearing that these criminal groups were planning to target U.S. based retailers was also a bit alarming.

It struck me how easily we hand over our information to the brands we trust — addresses, payment details, even style preferences — often without a second thought. If companies at that level are being targeted, it’s a reminder that convenience should never come at the cost of caution. A stylish checkout is great, but a secure one is even better.

Quick tip: Before you buy, consider using virtual card services like Apple Pay or Privacy.com for an extra layer of protection — some banks even offer the ability to generate virtual card numbers directly. These options help shield your real card number from merchants, and if a site is ever compromised, you can easily replace a virtual number without needing to cancel your actual card.

And finally, here’s a look at what I wore to work this week. Because I’ll only be working one day next week, I won’t be posting any kind of recap post, so look for that to resume the week after. I’m hoping, though, that the conference will help inspire me with some topics to write about! Have a wonderful and safe weekend, and a great week ahead as well!
