SECURE, IN STYLE

Weekly Style Recap: January 5-9, 2026

Hello there, everyone! A belated merry Christmas and happy new year to all of you. Yep, I’m back! I had a nice and relaxing sabbatical—as I’m fondly calling my over-a-month off from work. It was wonderful to spend the time as I wanted. I spent a lot of time relaxing, recharging, and generally just enjoying the free time. I didn’t even dread coming back in to work. 😜

The new year also is bringing a new challenge for me—more specifically, my blog. I had received an email from my domain host provider informing me of the upcoming cost involved for renewing my domain.

OOF.

While I still have until July until this domain (.tech) expires, I decided to go ahead and secure a new domain to switch over to—.me. While it’s considerably cheaper, honestly, having a .me domain would be more, me (no pun intended). It’s especially more in line with my signature hashtag, #VulnerablyMe. Now, I have to figure out how to move everything over to the new domain, not to mention change everything across the internet that’s associated with my current domain. I haven’t quite figured out how I’m going to accomplish this. Since my site is hosted on AWS (Amazon Web Services), I’m thinking I may just start up a new instance that will be associated with the new domain, but I have to figure out how to move my entire site over to the new instance, but also ensure that there aren’t any traces that would point back to the .tech domain. If there’s anyone out there that knows a thing or two about AWS and migrating WordPress sites, I’d love some advice! 🙏🏼

This Got Me Thinking

Normally, I use this section to provide my thoughts on various topics in either the fashion/style or cybersecurity realms—occasionally even mixing the two. This time, it’s more of a reflection and general wonderment regarding my career journey.

The time away from work not only was relaxing, it also afforded me lots of time to reflect, and think about where I want to go in my security career. As I’m sure I’ve said many times before, I know I want to work on the human side of cybersecurity. I’ve discovered some time ago that I’m not looking to get into the technical side—I don’t really have the aptitude for it. Even though I know which side I want to journey into, I still am wrestling with specifically where in the human realm I want to be. I am passionate about the culture side of things, but also have been enjoying the occasional exposure to the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) side as well. There may even be other areas on the human side that I’m not aware of, but I can’t seem to find my niche.

I had a touch-base with my director on his first day back at work, and I’m thankful that we both are in agreement that this is where my passion and possible strengths lie. Through the discussion, he feels that perhaps I should pursue obtaining the CISM (Certified Information Security Manager) certification rather than the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), since the CISM isn’t as technical. However, there is the requirement that I have worked 5+ years in the Information Security field, with at least 3 of those years as an Information Security (IS) manager. I think that some of what I’ve been—and currently am—doing would apply towards the 5-year requirement, but there’s still the IS manager part that I’ll need.

I’d love discussion and advice on this, especially from those working on the human side. Maybe something will click with me, and I’ll have my “a-ha” moment.

Finally, here’s a look back at what I wore to work this week. As a bonus, because I actually started work on the Friday before this past week, there are five outfits to showcase instead of the usual four. I hope you enjoy them.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and stay safe!
